Yesterday was 'Random Acts of Kindness' day and with the success of last year's charity fundraiser (raised over $1000 for Operation Smile) I am back again and hoping to go bigger and better.
With everything that's going on in the world I gave a lot of thought (and sought friends' advice) as to which charity to support. I wanted something that didn't separate people on moral/political issues and could unite and not isolate people.
I think we can all agree that what the world needs now, more than ever, is kindness. And what better charity right now to support than Random Acts.
'Random Acts is a non-profit organization that is aiming to conquer the world, one random act of kindness at a time. We’re dedicated to funding and inspiring acts of kindness around the world.' A registered charity run entirely by volunteers, Random Acts helps fund random acts of kindness around the world and with the help of donations have been able to achieve and assist in some incredible things.
These opportunities for kindness range from donation collection drives at conventions for charities such as animal shelters, soup kitchens and outreach programmes all the way up to the bigger campaigns such as their dream2acts Nicaragua project.
The dreams2acts Nicaragua project was born from a request from The Free High School in San Juan del Sur which is another nonprofit that provides access to education for those excluded from regular schools in the area including: women with children, anyone over eighteen, people who work during the week and those who live too far away to attend daily high schools. The Free High School were asking for funding to provide a bus to prevent isolating those who could not afford the bus fare, were skipping lunch in order to afford to attend or walking for hours just so they could get there. Money raised by Random Acts not only bought the bus but has gone on to begin an even more exciting project - providing A Center for Human Development which will be a whole new campus for the high school. Random Acts continues to raise funds to help make this a reality and in 2015 sent a group of fundraisers to San Juan del Jur to assist in the physical efforts behind the first building that had been successfully funded.
Random Acts is a global organisation helping funding the work of good people all over the world and generally making it a better place.
I hope you will join me in my fundraising quest and donate with me to this incredible organisation and help them conquer the world - one act of kindness at a time.
