A Mother's Success
Organized by: Shannon Meikel
I'm a 28 yr old single mother of four, (10,7,3,2). My mother and I left chicago, IL to move us all to a new start in Alaska. After traveling 11 states and Canada (having an adventure than there is not enough room to write about) finally arrived at our destination. Only to drive off a cliff. We lost everything. We were in our car and shelters for three months, I was on the news advocating for a children's playground at one of the shelters, and I began two schooling programs. One is auto repair; online course at Penn Foster Career and one at ACC for business. In the end we prevailed and moved into our townhome at the end of September 2016. I'm obtaining my business license in the hopes of starting my own mobile mechanic business. It will be basic services starting; Battery charging/changing, Tire changes, Oil Changes. I will work towards added more services along the way of expansion. Then, a location for the sole purpose of paperwork and working out of it myself. Eventually to buy another location to hire employees to work out of. All in the end goal of providing a future for my family. I've managed to do ok, but there is still so much to replace for everyone and the household. I'm hoping to get some help on faith. Faith that others see potential in a young mom trying to do what seems impossible. Faith that there are still people who prefer local shops over corporate. Faith that in return I'll continue to pay it forward.
