A mother's wish
Organized by: Shannon Acre
My name is Shannon and I am the mother of three wonderful children ages 18, 14 and 11. My 11 year old Son has a terminal illness called Duchennes Muscular Dystrophy. Our family has been through some terrible things regarding this disease. My Son Antonius is only 11 and is already facing his own mortality. His doctors say his life expectancy is only 20-25 years old. He cannot walk very well anymore and has list the ability to do many other very normal things such as put Legos together, walk unassisted, shower himself, dress himself ect. We recently have been told by his doctors that not only does his have a terminal illness that Will claim his life, a complete right bundle branch block (which means the right side of his heart doesn't function anymore), chronic fatigue, muscle wasting, and a diaphragm that is so weak he has to use machine to breathe at night but he now suffers chronic debilitating migraines. All Antonius wants is to be a normal 11 year old boy. To play, have fun and enjoy his already too short life. As you can imagine medical bills, equipment and medications are an incredible burden for our family, but the emotional trials are just as bad. My oldest son Alex gave up a scholarship and a place in the Navy because he doesn't want to leave his little brother. My Daughter who is 14 suffers bought of depression, sadness and anger because of this disease. As a mother this breaks my heart daily. To know there is no cure for this disease, no time line on how it will proceed or if my son will make it to the 20-25 year old mark. The past few months have been hard on us as two boys we know one 11 and one 14 have passed away due to complications caused by this disease. I'm asking for donations that will help pay Antonius's medical expenses but also so that I may take Antonius and his siblings to see the two places my son Antonius wants to see before he cannot travel anymore. The Grand Canyon and The twin tower memorial. I can't give this to my children on my own and fear I never will. Instead of planning summer vacations or theme park outings I have to plan the next meal, weather to pay the mortgage or the electric bill and which medical bill gets the 25 dollars this month. Please help me provide my Son Antonius with lasting memories of the two places he wants to see most with his family. Much love and many blessings.
