a place to live
Organized by: Angie Davis
We have been married for 31 years and my husband and I have always been employed but I developed diabetes in 2008 and it has become so unmanageable. I also have an under active thyroid, hypertension, high blood pressure, reflux disease and extreme depression. I can not afford health insurance and I have been without medication for more then six weeks. I am frightened I am going to pass away leaving my husband all alone. I don't want to be rich I simply want to have a warm place to live and the proper medication for both of us. Last January I was in a coma due to my diabetes(DKA), I had to go to my brother's home in Va to recover for three months and on my way home I ended back up in ICU due to another DKA. I am now back in Maine with my husband. Unfortunately we are now homeless due to lack of income. It is getting very cold and we are getting desperate I can not go back to my brother's as he is very ill himself and now has his five grandchildren to care for. I am living off of my husband's disability check. He has a debilitating foot problem called Charcote tooth syndrome and two years ago started having unexplained seizures. He has health insurance but it does not cover his $1000. a month medication and has had to cut the dose in half in order to pay for it.
