A Special Boy's Kindergarten Tuition
Organized by: Vera Kasi
BIG NEWS. My son and I are ecstatic and looking forward to a new direction in our life. One huge piece of the puzzle: My son got accepted to the very school that I dreamed about.
I wrote about our "dream school" in my blog. My son's test day for a school was the very next day. I had sent our application last minute with great hesitation because of the high tuition. A colleague of mine encouraged to apply anyhow.
While touring the school I was holding back tears since it was at least 80% of what I had written about. My son has not stopped talking about the school since that day. They gave him a little gift: A postcard picture, painted by another student, and my son taped it on the wall by his bed and kisses the picture every night when he goes to sleep.
Every time I ask him if he would like to go to there, the answer is a very clear “yes”.
** About Me:
I'm a strong but quite a depleted single mom living in NYC. The truth: I have no family in this country, and no financial support. We need support and love in all areas of life, not just financial. Spiritual, emotional, physical even.
I'm an NYU graduate, with a corporate career in digital media, shifting towards writing and coaching full-time. If I’m completely honest with myself, these past years have been incredibly taxing. I happily devote all of my free time to my son and we have a precious time together, but I want to make sure I’m not the only great influence in his life.
** About My Son:
My son is super special and sweet. Those who know me, know the wonderful stories about him already.
He is 4. He holds doors for women, picks up flowers in parks for them (and sticks and stones for men, sometimes flowers too ;-). He started the flower-picking at 1.5 y. He loves nature and spends full days outside. He is the tree hugger guy, he laughs bubbly and joyfully when he feeds birds and squirrels. He talks about wanting to save Mother Earth, “we have to fix her and heal her”.
He is incredibly loving, polite and happy and - perhaps unusual - doesn’t watch any TV, and has never dealt with any of the technology gadgets. He is loved by all. Nannies, teachers, strangers. Other children tell their parents after one meeting that they miss him. He finds something to complement about literally everyone. He hugs you, complements you, tells you to drive carefully and take care of yourself. Taxi drivers get this treatment as well!
Last Spring he wanted me to hurry up in the morning but instead of complaining, he came to the bathroom holding my flip-flops with a bow tied around them (a shoelace he had found), handed them to me with buddha-like gestures and said: "Mom, you might want to try these on - they probably look really nice on you."
His pre-K school nurse told me about him excitedly one day. She had called his name by the classroom door (not knowing who he is) and soon after, to her surprise - had my son by her, take her hand with both his hands and kiss the back of her hand - "yes, here I am." She said no man ever, adult or child, had been this polite to her. "Amor! I am in love!" She had told her entire family and all her friends about him.
** The Financial Details:
March 18 Deadline + April 1 Final Commitment
The school granted partial financial aid for us but we need to raise 14 000 to fill in the gap (13 K + misc fees). The first non-refundable portion is due next Friday, March 18 - aka SOON! April 1, another date just around the corner, we will have to have made a binding commitment - my portion of the tuition is due whether we take the spot or not. In other words, I need to raise a significant amount by March 18 to feel confident that we can move forward towards April 1.
A friend who taught for 20+ years once said: “We all deserve the foundations to allow us to thrive.”
I do believe, genuinely and wholeheartedly, that my son’s wonderful qualities will be supported the way he deserves them to be supported when he attends this wonderful school. He will, am sure, give back to the world.
I thank you for your energetic support, meditations and prayers, and your practical support to help fund this school.
I trust things will align!
