The call on my 10th wedding anniversary informed us we were having triplets! But, at 21 weeks I went into labor. The doctor said she would deliver them and let me hold them until they passed. I begged her to give them a chance. This is when my husband walked away, he didn’t want “special” children. On November 8, 1997, I became the mother of two amazing girls, Sarah 1 lb 5 oz and Jennifer 1 lb 7 oz. The fight began, everything that could go wrong did but they hung on. Sarah had a grade 2 brain hemorrhage, hole in her heart, bronchopulmonary dysplasia, bad eyes and didn’t even have all of her skin, she also got a very bad infection in the hospital. Sarah was in the hospital more than home for the next few years, many times they said I would lose her. She has had 16 surgeries so far. She doesn’t walk or talk but is so happy! No matter how bad a day I have, her smiling face is all I need. She loves assisted swimming, adaptive horseback riding and misses visiting her grandparents. As her weight climbed, my parents could no longer care for her and I gave up my career. Eventually, I got a job working as a para with “special” children so I had the same hours as Sarah. When my savings was gone, Sarah started getting SSI. Between my job and SSI, I gross in the mid 20s. I provide my children with the necessities. Now I am in desperate need of help. Sarah weighs over 100lbs and is too heavy for me to lift in and out of my car. I have worked so hard to give her what she needs but now I’m at a loss on how to get her out of the house so she can have a fulfilling life doing the basic things that most people take for granted. Thank you for a chance at this opportunity. God Bless you! Love Lori and Sarah
