BENEFITING: Domestic Violence Project, Inc.
EVENT DATE: Oct 12, 2014
* 1 in 4 women in the United States will experience some form of domestic violence during their lifetime
* An estimated 1.3 million women per year are victims of physical assault by an intimate partner
* Of those who are domestic violence victims, 85 percent are women, according to an eight-year study done by the Bureau of Justice in 1996
* A 2011 study concluded that 19.3 percent of all women in the United States had been raped at one point in their lives, and that almost 44 percent of women had suffered some form of sexual violence other than rape during their lifetime.
Domestic violence is overwhelming all of us, but one organization fighting to fix this alarming trend is the SafeHouse Center in Ann Arbor, MI. We are hosting a city wide chili cook-off to garner the increased attention and funding SafeHouse Center needs in order to continue providing support for women and children impacted by domestic violence and sexual assault, including counseling, legal advocacy, and most importantly shelter.
Join in the cause and help us support SafeHouse Center in their mission to combat domestic violence and sexual assault in Washtenaw County.
