Co-working, as we all know, is working in the same space and yet indulging in independent work. People working in a co-working space are not employed by the same organization. They just use the space for doing their own independent work. Enjoyed by freelancers, independent contractors and other associated people, this style of working has evolved dramatically in the last decade or so. But when did it all start? Well talking to an expert about office space in santa monica, we had interesting insights about the history of co-working.
Early imprints: The first instance of co-working can be traced back to the washer man colonies in the early 16th century when hundreds of washer men did their own washing in a shared washing space. Although, it sounds insignificant, this instance provides an interesting example on how a group of people got together to do their own independent work in a shared space.
Evolving the concept of Co-working: With the passage of time the concepts of co-working have changed immensely. As we saw earlier co-working in the past was coming together of people indulging in similar kind of work. But modern day co-working accommodates designers, writers or even independent contractors under the same roof.
