Aaron's Medical Expenses
Organized by: Becky Boulger
On April 20th, I was involved in a motocross accident. I was rushed to the nearest trauma center and was immediately taken into emergency surgery with a grade 4 liver laceration, torn common iliac vein (nearly killed me), right kidney failure, collapsed lung, and a broken collarbone. Spent 25 days in 3 different hospitals. During one of my 2 surgeries, an IV was missed and completely poisoned my arm. It looked dead, and it wasn't even my actions that caused it. My arm was swollen for the next few weeks, and I was transferred to a different hospital. A few days after, I had a 3rd surgery for a skin graft. Afterwards, I had nerve damage to my median, radial, and ulnar nerves. My median nerve was incomplete. Once the wound vac was removed, the graft had only taken about 50% the rest was dead. It took months of daily dressings to heal, and now it still blisters and opens occasionally. The skin is adhered to the muscle, so I cannot efficiently bend or straighten it. As for the nerve damage, I had a 4th surgery to repair my median nerve, which was successful. I still don't have significant improvement 3 months or so after the surgery, but it's slowly coming back. Besides the blood clots, my arm is the only thing that remains 'crippled.' If only they wouldn't have missed that IV.....
