BENEFITING: Crohn's & Colitis Foundation
My name is Angela and I am a Crohn's patient. Since my diagnosis I have participated in several half marathons, two of which were with my team...Team Challenge. Team Challenge is an endurance training groupp that raises fund for the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America ( CCFA ).
Crohn's & Colitis are imflammatory bowel diseases that affect over 1.4 million people in America alone. There is currently no cure... Many of the medications used to "control" these diseases have many side effects and often don't work very well at all. People with these diseases suffer daily with abdominal cramping, diarrhea, malabsorption issues, nausea, eye problems, joint pain, fatigue..and many other issues. Your bowels control a lot more than you can imagine.
I have had an ileocolectomy where they removed three feet of my colon and part of my termial ileum...what this means for me is I am in painf often at the site where they reconnected my intestines, I don't absorb B12, I am in the restroom quite often and nauseated a lot of the time. I am experiencing a lot of joint pain...and thanks to needind prednisone last year to control a flare, I have gained 45 lbs. I will not let this keep me from doing the things in life that I enjoy and that are important to me ( like find raising for this cause).
Last year I attempted to make it to Edinburgh with the Team Challenge International team...but fell short on my fund raising minimum. Many of you donated and did help me raise over $1000 dollars towards a cure, and I appreciate and love all of you. I am in your debt.
I am not sure as of yet when and where Team Challenge will be going in the next year....but I DO know, I want to be there! I know that times are tough...but every dollar counts. I know I can count on you to help me make my goal this time and enable me to participate with my team.
Your dollars go towards reseaarching a cure and better medical treatments, support and education for patients and their families and sending kids affected by these diseases to Camp Oasis for a week.
Thank you so much for your generosity in the past....and hopefully again now. The need for a cure isn't going away...1 in 200 people need you..and me. Please help me do this.
