I'm so excited to be running the 2017 NYC Marathon for Team Andi. When I came across Team Andi I was instantly drawn to it. First, it's the same name as my son, different spelling but secondly it pertains to NICU babies. My daughter, who is now 2, spent 9 days in the NICU. After my daughter's birth she was brought to the nursery. When she was there she started choking. They called her a silent spitter because she made no noise while spitting up. Had she not been hooked up to machines we do not know what would have happened to her. Thankfully the amazing nursery nurses were in the right place at the right time. It was not long after that that they had moved her to the NICU. They didn't know what was wrong with her. They ran some tests and determined that she had acid reflux that was causing her to have Brady epsiodes. She was immediately put on medicine to help with it. It took a few days before the medicine was in full effect. It was so gut wrenching walking into the NICU every 3 hours for the next 9 days. The first question out of my mouth, "did she have another epsiode?" I'll never forget those feelings of walking into the NICU each time, or the sounds of the machines, or the gut wrenching feeling when the machine would make the sound that her oxygen level was dropping. To this day, I do not look at the oxygen reader the same. The feeling of walking out of the hospital WITHOUT your baby is something no parent should ever have to face. Unfortunately, it does happen all too often. That's why when I found Team Andi, I knew I had to be apart of it. I knew I wanted to make a difference for at least one family. If I could spare one family that feeling then it would all be worth it. I'm proud to say that my girl is a vivacious, happy two year old firecracker. You'd never know there was ever any issue with her. As I type this she has managed to put both of her legs into one pant leg of her leotard.
