BENEFITING: Saha Global
Hi, my name is Abby Teitgen. I am a first year engineering student at the University of Virginia, planning to study Biomedical Engineering. This summer I will be traveling to Tamale, Ghana with Community Water Solutions (www.communitywatersolutions.org), a non-profit organization that partners with rural communities in developing countries to create sustainable clean water businesses. The businesses are owned and operated by individuals in the communities they serve, and use simple, affordable technologies to enable the treatment, distribution, and storage of clean, safe drinking water.
As a fellow I will be working with 3 other team members to build this system, as well as ensure that it runs efficiently and will serve as a permanent, reliable source of water. The maintenance and operation of these water treatment businesses is funded by revenue from the sale of drinking water, while the capital necessary to establish them is generated from fundraising activities. I am hoping to raise $3000 for equipment and materials to build and maintain this water purification system.
Once established, the business will provide safe drinking water for 700-1000 people in Ghana, where over half the population lacks access to clean water. All CWS water businesses that have been implemented thus far are now consistently selling water and earning enough money not only to sustain the business, but also to provide a small income to the individuals who work there.
I am very excited about this opportunity, and feel confident that my team members and I will make a real difference in this community. I would greatly appreciate your help with this endeavor--every donation makes a difference! If you have any questions about the project, feel free to email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
