A Birthday Wish for Flint - Clean Water
Organized by: Dana Roberts
Event Name: Flint Water Crisis
This is my birthday month, so I typically get asked by my friends and family - "What are you doing for your birthday?" I sat and watched the disaster unfolding in Flint and knew that I needed to DO something. I'm asking you to join me in celebrating my birthday by helping me provide water to Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church and to Flint International Academy which is a charter school in Flint. Why a charter school? Upon my research, charter schools are not allowed access to cases of water from Flint Public Schools. They must get their donations from charities or private donors. Amazingly disappointing.
I have teamed up with a minority owned water distributor in Atlanta, Star Walker Industries, the distributors of Integrity Water. I thought how perfect it would be to support my community in purchasing water from this company and shipping it to Flint. I'm supporting my own, while supporting my own :)
Please see @Integrity_Water on Twitter and visit their website at http://www.starwalkerindustries.com/ for more information.
Here are some quick numbers:
Cost of a Case of Water: $2.00
Cases per Pallet: 84
Total Cost of ONE pallet $168.00
19 pallets can fill one truck for a total of $3,192.00 (38,304 BOTTLES OF WATER)
Shipping & Handling: Rough estimate is about $1500.00, however I'm looking for a transportation service to donate shipping.
I'm asking you to join me in celebrating my birthday by donating ANYTHING to this effort. I will give a full report to all donors via email with amounts collected and spent for full transparency. I thank you for even considering. Let's make a difference and be a blessing to a community devastated by this disaster.
