A Body at Work - The Bartender Series
Organized by: United States Bartender's Guild
I had the pleasure of meeting Marcia Polas (www.polaspilates.com) at the Southwest Regional Conference in Denver, where she led a seminar on retraining bartenders to help get them through a shift without pain and how to prevent repetitive motion damage!!!! I sat in the audience and listened as she described the shoulder condition that actually lead me to step out from behind the bar. A condition that I had worked with a chiropractor for 2+ years to try to keep under control. How many of our members are experiencing similar conditions...or just want to learn about how changing the way they stand can lead to pain-free feet at the end of a 12-hour shift?
Since 2003, Marcia has been helping clients resolve chronic pain, regain mobility and flexibility, and build strength within alignment - translating Pilates from an exercise routine to a method of using your body effortlessly, no matter the task. She focuses on studying motion and activity natural to a client in their own environment.
In 2013, studying the alignment and functionality of bartenders, she found their common patters, and began the work of retraining bartenders to use their bodies effortlessly. In 2015, she completed a body at work - the bartender series. The series includes over 2.5 hours of interactive workshop material with 16 videos and includes self-myofascial release training, alignment behind the bar within every repetitive activity, and appropriate stretches.
Marcia is offering the USBG the opportunity to purchase the series and become the exclusive owner of the content, but we need your help! If every member was able to donate $3, we would raise enough to purchase the video series and share it on our online community. If we raise more than $10,000, Marcia will add a Q&A Session and additional material based on feedback provided by members!
We appreciate any amount you are able to contribute to help us reach this goal! Don’t forget to share this link with your employer and favorite brands….their contributions will help to keep their favorite bartenders working pain-free!
BECAUSE IT ISN’T SUPPOSE TO HURT TO DO YOUR JOB!!!
