THE STORY:

This project is named in honor and memory of Gerald (Jerry) Lawson a pioneer in the video game industry. "Jerry" once stated “I don’t play video games that often; I really don’t,” he said in the 2009 interview. “First of all, most of the games that are out now — I’m appalled by them.” Most are concerned with “shooting somebody and killing somebody,” he said.

“To me, a game should be something like a skill you should develop — if you play this game, you walk away with something of value.”

Children today are overexposed to technology but technology is mainly used to entertain instead of as tool for learning. Technology has become a distraction as opposed to a necessity to ensure that children are able to compete in the future in a technology-driven world.
Children have begun to rely on technology to process information for them instead of using technology as a tool to help them process information. ABFP proposes to offer a program that exposes children to the everyday use of science, math, engineering, technology and civics, through a year-long project that requires participants to build a “greener community”. This project is designed to not only increase student participants' performance in core academic areas, but to peak their interest in science, math, engineering and technology.
