The New York Times describes Lunch Break as "the most raucous of a group of lunch-hour dance parties starting up in New York City and around the world. The goal: get the screen-addicted masses to move and groove." Flavorpill and Absolut also invite non-profits to attend and raise funds for their organizations at these free, one-hour parties. DJ Questlove spun for this particular Memorial Day-themed Lunch Break, which took place at Avenue in Manhattan and leveraged funds for Food Bank For New York City.
Food Bank For New York City has spent 30 years as the city's major hunger-relief organization, working to end food poverty throughout the five boroughs. As one of the country's largest food banks, their mission is to end hunger in NYC by organizing food, information, and support for community survival and dignity. As the city's hub for integrated food poverty assistance, the Food Bank tackles the hunger issue on three fronts — food distribution, income support and nutrition education — all strategically guided by its research.
