AWAIC is the largest emergency safe shelter in Alaska providing a full continuum of services for victims and those who care about them. AWAIC provides services to women, children and men impacted by violence in their lives. Empowerment is a key to success for any victim and that is done by providing resources to make the best decisions for themselves and their families.
Safety and healing for children exposed to domestic violence is of great concern to AWAIC. Children who encounter or witness violence experience emotional, physical, and developmental impacts that can impact them well into adulthood. AWAIC seeks to promote the enrichment and advancement of Anchorage youth by proving education and support groups, safe places to play and learn, help understanding what they have experienced and learning healthy ways to cope and heal.
AWAIC is committed to providing support to victims of domestic violence, their friends, family and the community as a whole. We believe that everyone has the right to live in a fear-free environment and work towards both preventing domestic violence and intervening with current victims.
