A Call to Help Amber Sing in Italy
Organized by: Amber Monroe
Growing up in my family, singing has always been a huge part of our lives. Ever since I was a little girl, I loved to sing! I would sing along to all my favorite childhood movies; groove with my parents, sisters, and brothers to blues, jazz, pop and R&B; and shout it out in my gospel church choir. In the fall of 2009, I joined the Golden Voices Concert Choir my freshman year at Tuskegee University. That was my real first experience being exposed to classical singing. It was my former choir director, Dr. Wayne A. Barr who suggested I try a summer program, Italian Opera Study Abroad, where I could travel to Pisa, Italy and study classical voice and Italian diction. I absolutely loved the experience and eventually decided that upon finishing my Bachelor's in Animal Science at Tuskegee, I would return to undergrad with a focus in music.
In 2013, I began at Oberlin Conservatory studying vocal performance. I have been blessed with various opportunities of teaching and performing since my decision to pursue singing as a career. Never in a million years would I have guessed I would be singing opera, but God has opened so many doors that I am only trying to be obedient to His will. I have been humbled to receive an abundance of support from family, friends, church family, communities, and organizations during my journey. Now, as I embark on a new experience, I am asking you all for your much needed assistance.
I have been presented with the opportunity to return to Italy for six weeks with the "Oberlin in Italy" summer program. I have the chance to perform in a mainstage production Puccini's "Suor Angelica" as the title role. This experience to grow as a young artist, and to be able to study and learn right in the heart of the Italian culture, is beyond incredible. Tuition for the program is $6000, which is due by March 10, 2016, and it unfortunately doesn't include airfare.
Therefore, I am reaching out to ask for your financial support in my future endeavors, because I know I cannot do this alone. Even spreading the word and encouraging others to aid on my behalf would be greatly appreciated! Thank you so much for your consideration and Many Blessings to you in this New Year!
