A Car for Joseph
Organized by: Maryla Webb
I met a sweet, young fellow down on his luck recently at a gas station. He just asked me for 20c! 20c was all he needed as he had bought a drink for $2 and was short 20c. I talked to him and learned his story. He is about 30 and homeless. He said that he would have a job if he had a car, but no way to get one. He had worked at a trailer rental place for 5 years once before and they said he could come back to work there any time he wanted. (That spoke volumes to me.) He couldn't move and camp in the area where the job was located, however, as the police were more strict there and would arrest him immediately if he was found "squatting." He said he didn't feel like he could ask anyone there for a place to stay as he didn't feel like he knew any of them that well. He had no family. (He had no brothers and sisters, and his Mom and Dad were dead.) He was just bumming money for food and living in a tent. I am trying to raise money for a $1500 car that I saw someone at work advertising that looks pretty good and runs well, and a little extra for deposits for utilities or a place to stay. He didn't appear to have drug or alcohol problems. He got homeless and car-less from a breakup with a fiancé who got the only vehicle between them.
