BENEFITING: Afrika Tikkun
A group of intrepid Accelerators will be running the Miami half and full marathon on January 25 2015 in order to raise funds for Afrika Tikkun. Give it up for Miguel de Gracia, Andrew Cortez, Ashley Barrington and Lee-Ann Vermaak!
It's the incredible organisation based in South Africa that Acceleration is proud to support as part of our Corporate Social Responsibility.
Afrika Tikkun's official line is: "Founded in 1994, Afrika Tikkun empowers communities through the development of productive generations through a Holistic Development Model."
Basically, what this means is: Afrika Tikkun doesn't believe in giving a starving man a fish, but rather in giving him a fishing rod and teaching him how to catch his own fish. This is done through the various programs on offer at the Afrika Tikkun centres located in areas where there is a need for the community to be uplifted. The programs enable the community to develop skills needed to find work (computer literacy, trade specific skills development, CV creation), provide support for those who are working (creches and afterschool care) and ensure that the community is equipped for a basic standard of living (parenting and nutrition courses, as well as social welfare, relief programs, government grant applications, access to medical help).
