#IceBucketChallenge comes to ACCO Brands. Many of us have heard about or participated in the Ice Bucket Challenge, which has gone viral in support of ALS (aka Lou Gehrig’s disease) for this currently incurable disease. The Challenge promotes awareness of ALS and encourages donations for research. For some of us, this illness hits home, such as for Adam Smith, Director of Swingline, whose 36-year-old brother Jay was diagnosed this spring. The leading experts believe ALS is not incurable, but is underfunded. With your help, we can raise funds toward research for a cure.
During the next two weeks, ACCO Brands U.S. locations will be participating in the Ice Bucket Challenge and raising funds for ALS. Awards will be given to the ACCO Brands top fundraising site, top individual fundraiser and best Ice Bucket Challenge video.
In addition, ACCO Brands employees and/or their spouses or domestic partners will be eligible to have their contributions to ALS matched through the ACCO Brands Matching Gifts Program. The current maximum per calendar year per employee and/or spouse or domestic partner is $1,250. Please take advantage of this great program if you have not yet met the maximum. The company match will be automatic at the end of the campaign, as we will capture this information and make one ACCO Brands contribution, so there is no paperwork to submit. You can also ask your network to donate on your behalf to increase the impact of the campaign. Donations will support the ALS Research Center at the Houston Methodist Neurological Institute.
