Two years ago I completed IRONMAN Coeur d'Alene for the first time. Part of that experience was seeing others carry the banner for something that was important to them.
On June 29th I will be participating again in IRONMAN Coeur d'Alene. This time I wanted to add some meaning to my adventure and do so on behalf of an organization that impacts the lives of so many people for the better! That organization is the American Childhood Cancer Organization Inland Northwest (ACCOIN) here in Spokane.
It's been very moving to see how this organization provides such a wonderful benefit to families faced with childhood cancer. Through personal observation and from my fiance` Tammy, who works with this group on a daily basis, I've come to truly appreciate their contribution to families in this terrible situation. They are there with new patient information, experience, emotional support, financial assistance, respite, toys, and many other programs and services because kids can't fight cancer alone.
Most of us can't imagine how terrible it would be if one of our children was diagnosed with cancer. Yet for many families in the Spokane area, it's a grim reality. It's a crappy situation that can have a domino effect on the lives of the family for the child diagnosed with cancer. Quite often, one parent must leave a job in order to be at the hospital for daily treatments. It’s expensive to come to the hospital every day to be with your child – fuel costs, parking fees, meals, and overnight accommodations for out of town patients can sometimes add up well beyond the financial means of a family budget that may been cut in half. Families, once solvent, now find themselves in serious financial situations just making ends meet. That doesn't even touch the emotional toll this situation takes on parents, siblings, and other loved ones.
What they do has touched me to the point that I want to help as much as possible.
I'm asking you to consider a contribution to this wonderful cause. Any donation helps and will make a difference!! I promise to give you your money’s worth while I swim, bike & run for a total of 140.6 miles in your name.
To donate click on the "DONATE" button to the right. To have a little fun, while staying out of trouble with Washington State gambling laws, you'll have the opportunity to guess my total finish time. Just enter your guess in the box marked "Comment, In Memory, Tribute" in hours-minutes-seconds. The pros finish in a little over 8 hours and the maximum time is 17 hours. We'll see who can come the closest and announce the best guess a couple days after IRONMAN.
For more information on this great organization please visit the ACCOIN website. Their website gives an in-depth overview of who they are and what they do far beyond what I can cover here. It can be found at ACCOIN
I truly hope you will help me with this very worthwhile cause. These people do wonderful things to help families that are staring at childhood cancer in the big ugly face!!!!
Thank you for your time and consideration in helping with this wonderful cause.
