BENEFITING: Achilles International Inc.
I believe that nothing can stand in your way if you have the will to achieve a goal in life. Any goal can be achieved if you want to achieve it and if you have the faith in yourself, despite your handicaps.
In November 5, this year, I intend to participate in the New York City Marathon 2017. I will do this with the help of Achilles International, an organization which promotes the participation of sports-persons suffering from any form of handicap, adults as well as children. They do this in order to enable those sports-persons to progress in their strive to improve their personal records and thereby build their self-confidence, so that they can tell themselves "everything is possible, new heights can be reached".
Sports-persons who are physically challenged are highly motivated and have an increased tolerance for difficulties, which gives them the power not to give in or give up when facing challenges, but to exert themselves more and more until they reach their limits. The Achilles organization seeks to train, guide and encourage handicapped persons to realize their dreams of breaking barriers and reaching new limits. Achilles sponsors Marathon and Triathlon competitions to those persons. Members of Achilles receive guidance from the staff, have discussions among themselves and meet in various events to discuss issues and encourage each other to reach their goals. For them to cross the finish line in a Marathon event is an emotionally uplifting experience which gives them a feeling of equality with those without disabilities.
Having a profound hearing impairment as well as Type 1 diabetes and being a Marathon runner, I can attest to the importance and effectiveness of the Achilles organization. It is important to me and to numerous other sports-persons with disabilities to help raise funds for Achilles so that they can continue their blessed activities.
I believe that any contribution, however small, can make a difference and help someone suffering from any type of handicap to actively partake in sport events. Any and all help will be very much appreciated.
