BENEFITING: Achilles International Inc.
EVENT DATE: Mar 19, 2017
This year I will be running the United Airlines NYC Half Marathon for Achilles International. What is Achilles International you might ask? They are a non profit organization that matches older and disabled athletes with guides to complete mainstream endurance events in order to promote personal achievement, enhance self esteem, and lower barriers to living a fulfilling life. When you see physically challenged athletes on the course using their arms to propel pushrim or hand-crank wheelchairs through the course, those are Achilles athletes. The people running with a tether between them? Those are visually impaired or blind Achilles athletes. Amputees, people with Multiple Sclerosis or Cerebral Palsy, those recovering from organ transplants, athletes with autism, those with a history of strokes or traumatic brain injuries, you name it -- all are Achilles athletes. My goal is to raise $1,000 for them by March 15th, 2017.
With your help, Achilles International can support athletes of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities in their quest to run the 2017 United Airlines NYC Half Marathon. Our athletes and their guides will race alongside our charity team to bring barrier-shattering inspiration to the streets of Manhattan. YOUR donations help us provide race registration, team jerseys, transportation, team meals, and admin logistics to Team Achilles in the NYC Half.
Additionally, here a few links to stories about Achilles International and their amazing guides and athletes.
A little goes a long way, my friends.
