THE STORY:

In 2013, Lowell's Irish Cultural Committee is proud to reintroduce the Acre Forum. Through anecdotes and historical facts, our speakers will delve into the immigrant community that helped shape our great city.

The Committee is very excited to announce that our highlighted speaker is celebrated urban and immigrant historian, as well as renowned higher education advocate Brian C. Mitchell.

A Lowell native, Brian is the author of the acclaimed, "The Paddy Camps: The Irish of Lowell, 1821–1861", as well as a number of books regarding Lowell and immigrant history.

Brian is the former president of Bucknell and Washington and Jefferson Universities, as well as the creator of the Edvance Foundation.

The Edvance Foundation is a nonprofit organization that is working to change American higher education through the development of bold, sustainable solutions that address the most pressing challenges facing students and institutions in the 21st century. The Foundation provides the expertise, resources, foresight, clarity, and ingenuity that educational institutions need to deliver lasting benefits to their student.
