THE STORY:

Sadly, cancer has touched us all in some form. I personally have had many family and friends affected by various types of this disease. My father survived a form of Neck cancer, my mother-in-law (Mid) lost her battle with Breast cancer, and my friend Dave Lohr fought a good fight against his battle with Pancreatic cancer.  Still others are battling as I write this... George, Uncle Vern, Jana, Matt, Andrea ... oh how I wish there was no ongoing list!

I am certain many of us question why!  Cancer challenges us to make tough decisions and accept things we ourselves cannot change.  My father's original diagnosis did not seem promising.  Unlike racing, it did not seem as simple as just train a little harder or run a little faster, push yourself, control the outcome... I felt helpless and began preparing for acceptance as I felt there is nothing I can do.  That was my lowest moment, so, I prayed sincerely that night before bed.  God was listening!  The next morning my alarm clock went off as normal, but not the usual annoying buzz, instead there was a plain and clear voice of a pastor explaining ... no one gets a free pass...and he told his own story as a survivor.  I found some peace and a better sense of understanding that morning.  Our family struggled through those months ahead ...tough decisions, meeting with doctors...the operation, the radiation and the chemo.  After witnessing all of that and seeing my father as a survivor for three years now👍!!!, I realize that  Our CHALLENGES  come in many different forms.   (Oh yah, that radio clock hardly ever played music, and I usually had it set to Rock or Country just in case!)

Mid... yes the mother-in-law..., I liked her. Rumor is that she liked me too. I miss those talks as she always seemed so interested in what I was doing. Well Mid, you are going to help me help some others as you have done throughout your life! I will fill you in during our training runs. WE will make a difference!

And Dave... he was a co-worker and a friend. We both were young when we started. We shared many great laughs at work and made that trip to Pittsburgh many times to attend Point Park. Dave went home in 2016 at just age 46. Wow, we are so close in age! Well Dave, you always gave 110% ... so WE are going to go back to Pittsburgh again and make a difference. I will give it 110% too.

So...Why do I run?  I run 🏃because I can - for those who can't!  When I run, l often see their faces or give them a look as I imagine them there to cheer me on in my imaginary moment.  They inspire me to run on as we cover miles of smiles and so many thoughts.  The images are so clear and only clouded by a bead of sweat that always seems to find its way into my eye.  I fuel my passion using them as my inspiration.  I think "WE" all enjoy the ride as we peacefully wander on 😋.

It has been a long time wish of mine to run for a bigger purpose and make a difference.  So this year I decided to pursue that dream.  To me, running 13.1 miles is a cherished blessing more so than a challenge, and I thank God every day for listening to me that night just a few years ago.  I will run this one for my Father & Mid & Dave & all those who have lost their fight and for those who are still fighting.   I truly believe that God and the American Cancer Society have helped in so many ways and this is just one way to pay it forward by setting My goal to raise 💯💵 per mile!!!

So I ask you today - will you make a difference and support this cause as "WE" run our race?  Help US make a difference and help those who are still Running.   Thank you so much for your generosity.
