Its almost race day. I'm excited to make the trip to Pittsburgh to hang out with my family. With the recent events in Boston heavy in our hearts, we have that much more reason to run for the people out there who can't. Two weekends ago all 3 B's ran a 10 miler in preparation and now we know we can make it for 13.1. Running is HARD. Mentally and physically its about pushing through. Having my 2 sisters to check in with and get encouragement from has made this journey so much easier. I'm so grateful to have my family and friends there to support me. I wouldn't be doing this without them. My baby sister Emily wrote this email about what we are trying to accomplish, and I wanted to share it:
As you all have probably heard by now, the Bryan sisters have decided to run our first half marathon May 5th, 2013 in Pittsburgh, PA. Since some sisters (Laurie and Sarah) are more athletic than some others (aka ME!) we wanted to run a race with meaning close to our hearts and fund raise for that cause.
Over the past couple years, some very near and dear to our hearts have struggled through, fought, beat and others still battle with cancer. Cousin Jill had to endure a life changing surgery due to breast cancer, but fortunately has been cancer free since. Grammy, even at a ripe 80 some years old, overcame numerous days of chemotherapy, blood draws, tests, and trips to the doctor to overcome Stage 3 Lymphoma. Still to this day the doctors say her scans are as though she never even had cancer! And most currently, our cousin Dan who is still battling Ocular Melanoma, and as patiently as possible going through test after test to determine what his next step in fighting will be. For these reasons, and the million of other stories of individuals fighting cancer, we choose the American Cancer Society as the recipient of our fundraising efforts for this running endeavor.
Each of the Bryan girls has a fundraising goal of $500 dollars, all of which will directly benefit the American Cancer Society. We want to thank you all from the bottom of our hearts for the moral support we have felt already during this journey. Every word of encouragement will help in our training, running and fundraising. We will keep you all updated on our future plans for a Zumba-Thon and a 3Bryans4aCure Night at the Bar so you can all join us for some fun while raising money for ACS!
