BACKGROUND: Right next to the billion-dollar army base, Fort Lewis, we have Tillicum and Woodbrook in Washington State, two small towns that have been stricken by poverty, crime, drugs, and hopelessness, also within a 5-mile radius there are 80 sexual offenders. Due to poverty we have seen a negative domino effect amongst our youth in the community. Adults are showing future generations drugs and crime to live and/ or feed their habits. According to the area police these small towns experience a large amount of robberies, thefts, assaults in which a lot of the times these incidents involve drugs, the whole community walking around with no hope for their future. No nearby centers in walking distance or no provided transportation to help these families get on their feet! Smart Children with tangible dreams and goals, if given the opportunity would thrive! However their parents are holding them back due to lack of knowledge. Most of the parents do not understand the importance of self -esteem and development of children in early years. On the other hand how can we expect possible drug addicted adults in poverty to automatically know how important our future youth are with out being provided the tools (knowledge, guidance and resources) to have growth within the family unit?
MISSION / VISION: The ACT Intervention Program has a building that’s needs to be renovated and built from the ground up. The Act program wants to bring hope, encouragement, and self esteem to the communities of Tillicum and Woodbrook. By having our building in the heart of Tillicum we will be able to provide mental health counseling, drug and sexual abuse counseling, parenting classes, tutoring services, job training resources, resume building, internships, field trips and more!
OUTCOME: The results of The ACT Intervention Program will help bring change in the community of Tillicum and Woodbrook. When providing services as described above we will see a decrease in crime, theft, robbery, and assaults, less drugs in the community and increase upward mobility. We will also see an increase of active and productive adults in the workforce with better parenting skills, children with increased self-esteem and hope. This builds ambition so they too can internalize they have a bright future ahead of them.
NEEDS: The ACT Intervention Program is just in the beginning stages where I myself Camille Johnson tutor and doses activities with the youth on Sundays from 1- 7 pm in the community of Tillicum and Woodbrook. We now have access to a building, which needs renovation ASAP so we can expand our services to more children and adults! The list as follows is not limited to: Building of walls all supplies for construction of the building, desks, white boards, projector, chairs, laptops, school supplies, food, passenger van, and professional men and women to join our team.
BUDGET: Anything your church, or organization can do monthly or one time is greatly appreciated and we at ACT thank you ahead of time for your consideration! The estimated costs to start are but not limited to 50,000. The ACT Intervention Program will have a monthly need of 5,000 – 10,000 to maintain professional staff and provide much needed services and annually 60,000 – 12,0000. The more we generate, the lager we can grow, and the more families we can help!
Thank you for your interest in The ACT Intervention Program. Our community, our children, our responsibility one step at a time!
