For many Charlotte schoolchildren, summer is an exciting time to explore what our community has to offer. Camps and programs throughout the region provide our youngest learners with opportunities to "plug-in" to their interests and pursue passions.
For others, this is a time when disconnectedness is the norm and basic needs go unmet. More than half of the achievement gap between lower- and higher-income youth can be explained by unequal access to summer learning opportunities. It can be argued that this gap is widening for our digital natives here in Charlotte, as 70,000 students are without Internet access at home.
Together, we can #ActivateSummer for some of our neighbors by offering scholarships, propelling them across the achievement gap to keep pace with their peers. Every $300 raised will provide an eligible Digi-Bridge scholar to attend a full week of #STEAMSummer programming.
