As I toe the start line for the New York City Marathon on November 3rd, take a deep breath, and start the 26.2 mile journey to Central Park, I know I'll be able to hear my mom rooting me on even though she won't be there. I will be running my 3rd marathon in her memory, exactly one year and one week after she passed.
My mom was always a strong champion for kids, with a particular focus on child healthcare for those whose families aren't able to afford it. To help honor my mom's dedication to children, I will be running those 26.2 miles to help raise money for the Children's Health Fund in her honor.
The Children's Health Fund, an "A" rated charity on Charity Watch, has made it their mission to provide healthcare to the nation's most medically underserved children. They support a national network of pediatric programs in the most disadvantaged rural and urban areas.
I ask you to take a moment and donate any amount you can not so that you can support me, but so you can support these kids and their families when they need it most. I know Linda would thank you from the bottom of her heart, as do I.
