Adam's Stanford Volleyball Camp Scholarship
Organized by: Nick Hawley
EVENT DATE Aug 01, 2014
Adam was a first year player on the volleyball team I coached at the local public high school. He was and continues to be one of the most dedicated players I have ever coached. Due to his unbelievable work ethic and positive attitude he deserves the opportunity to receive the best coaching. Please help me to reward him for his hard work.
Adam was born in Korea and didn't move to the US until he was 12. After his father passed away his mother moved away. He was forced to move often and never had the chance to experience team sports and all of the excitement and growth they have to offer. His first time playing anything was the first day of our tryouts. Despite being behind many of his team mates in skill development it was clear that he wanted to improve and was willing to do the work necessary to make that happen.
Adam has attended every practice, clinic, camp and open gym which I have offered both through the high school and club where I coach. This driveand willingness to put in the time and effort earned him the Most Improved Player award for his first season with the high school. He was the most committed player on a team where attendance was poor (this is an understatement) and was the only player to show for practice over spring break essentially doing 2 hours of 1 on 1 work with me everyday.
Every coach who has had the opportunity to work with Adam has gone out of their way to tell me what a cool kid he is and praise him on his focus and determination. As a coach struggling with a team who didn't want to show up and didn't want to have to work hard he was a reminder of why I choose to do this job despite little pay and long hours. When he told me that volleyball was the first thing he has ever really felt like he can fit into and call his own it helped to strengthen my desire to promote the sport of boys volleyball. It reminded me that there is always that kid looking for his place not just on the court but in life. If I am lucky and continueing to work hard I might just be the one to help him find his way.
It is because of this that I want to give back to Adam and allow him to have this great experience. The total cost of the camp is $875. I will donate the $125 above the goal of this fundraiser as a thank you to him. Please help me raise the remainder and any little bit will help. If everyone who has seen this post already had donated just $1 we would have already reached our goal. Thank you very much for your support.
