WOW - ADDIS
Organized by: Marianne Turner
HELLO! My name is Marianne; I am a musician, artist, singer-songwriter, yoga teacher and activist. I am a devoted practitioner drawn toward humanitarian service and care deeply about the well-being of others. I volunteer my time as the director of Within Our World (WOW), a grassroots non-profit organization whose mission is to educate and empower people and communities in rural Africa. I am determined to record my album and support a fearless music tour between California and Montreal, with the purpose to raise money for our cause.
WOW! Thanks to grassroots donations we recently raised $3,247 to keep two Kenyan high school students, Fatma Chemtai and Pauline Ningali, in school for the remainder of the year, as well as helped three young men from Ethiopia complete their semesters in University and College. As the need for global aid, local resources and sustainable outcomes is ongoing, we continue to raise funds for their future education, as well as for our other projects.
WHAT'S NEXT: Spread wider and more deeply the message of kindness.
I met Addisu David in Bahir Dar, Ethiopia, after a long trip from the country's capital, Addis Ababa. He is from a small village just outside Bahir Dar, and was working as a tour guide at the hotel I stayed at. We became friends as he insisted to show me the sights and best places to see, including beautiful Lake Tana, the source of the Blue Nile and largest lake in Ethiopia. He was genuine in his passion to share the beauty and spirit of his home. His goal, I learned, is to start a bicycle business for tourists and locals alike, allowing for transportation between villages as well as for a unique sightseeing experience.
"The Long Road" (Addis) is a song completely dedicated to education and business projects such as above by giving grants and micro-finance loans to people and communities whose only barrier to thriving and reaching their potential is funding. By giving 100% of its life earnings to a charitable cause, the song alone can help make several of WOW's projects a reality. The forthcoming album will also exist to serve in such a way to pool donations dedicated to social improvements.
This is just the beginning. The total goal of $150,000 for this campaign is a huge and exciting endeavor; an effort dedicated to give back to people and local communities; for the love of humanity and kindness that binds us as one; to organizations including Tsavo National Park (Kenya), The Ronnie Fund (Canada, Kenya), Within Our World (USA) and The Full Gospel Churches of Kenya Malindi.
Peace to all beings,
