Adele's Melanoma Mania
Organized by: Julie Vera
Walk into any Starbucks and ask a partner what they enjoy most about working there and most of them will tell you "we're like a family." Two days ago (12/16/2015), my fellow partner, Adele, received the devestating news while at work that her cancer had returned for the second time. First diagnosed with Stage 4 melanoma in 2012, Adele went through rigorous chemo treatments, leaving her with debilitating headaches and severe vision issues. Through all of the pain, she still came to work every day, wearing super cute scarves to cover where her beautiful red hair once was. She kicked cancer's butt and had a clean bill of health until Thanksgiving of this year when she noticed a new spot almost exactly in the same spot as the first one. She is now facing the unthinkable for the second time in 3 years. To make matters worse, Adele is her mother's sole caregiver. Her mother is battling dementia, so when Adele isn't at work, she is home making memories that her mother will soon forget. Along with our Starbucks family, I am hoping to raise money in an effort to offset the burden Adele and her mother are soon facing. Any amount anyone is willing to donate will be greatly appreciated and go towards taking a little stress off of Adele as she once again embarks on this journey to kick cancer.
