Our fundraiser is dedicated to David Van Scyoc who was tragically burned in a gasoline explosion when he was 2 years old. He was a tireless activist and a medical marijuana patient and grower until his death May 24, 2013.
He had 2 marijuana-related felonies and because of them he was rejected as a volunteer camp counseler for burned kids. He didn't have the money to get his records expunged so we were working on this when he passed.
We started thinking about the many other people out there who are facing the same thing. 40 years of The War on Drugs has created an historical number of felons. Any degree of felony will screw your life. No educational assistance, no housing, no food stamps, no jobs. no loans.
Now that we have passed I-502 in the state of Washington we can help those tokers who qualify for expungement of their records. It is not a huge amount of money but it will be life-changing for recipients. They have been involved in getting us to this place of recreational cannabis. Remember, please, the folks who have been building our industry and carrying on regardless of the federal government's war on us.
Even though David has passed, we are helping others in his name.
