One of the major problems we see working with inner city youth is their lack of dreams. When asked what they wanted to do, several said, "Work at McDonald's." It is simply because they can't see outside of their current circumstances or even think anything else is available to them. One of my personal missions in working with inner city youth it to start a Dream Campaign. I've started getting the inner city youth to tell me 3 things they have always wanted to do or places they have always wanted to go as well as what they want to be when they grow up. I am committed to helping at least one dream per child become a reality. We have seen everything from, "I want to go to cosmetology school" to "I've always wanted to go to an NFL game" and "I want to see the beach." We have students who simply need some one on one mentor time with a coach in their sport. We have kids who need hope that there is in fact a future for them. If they can have an "Experience" that makes their dreams a potential reality, we can then help them take the next step. Many of our kids have never been outside the city of Atlanta more less experienced some of the fun things IN our city. We want to network with organizations, athletes, and different companies to help these kids dreams come true. I am starting up a website with stories and ways for people to connect and donate and well as working on granting the first dream. Two of our young ladies will be spending a day shadowing a student at a local cosmetology school because they have a dream of doing hair. Some of the dreams we can make happen for free. Others will cost money. For my 31st Birthday, I am trying to raise $1000 t seed money to help create a Dream Campaign that will make a different in the lives of youth in our community. Would you consider making my birthday dream come true so that I can makes dreams the reality for many inner city, at risk youth?
