Mary is one of the oldest Form 3 girls accepted to Daraja Academy. Her family comes from an area near the coast that is very dry and there is very little industry. Her father is too old to work, and her mother is a business lady, but doesn’t make enough to send her daughter to secondary school. Mary sat for the 8th grade exam for three years in a row, each time hoping that her family would have enough to get her to school.
Luckily, we heard about her story and visited Mary. She is a young adult and is wise beyond her years, but fits right in with the younger students. Mary wants to be a nurse when she gets older.
