ADVENTURES FOR CHALLENGED CHILDREN...
Organized by: JOHN WEAVER
This is a true story of a gentle man and his wonderful dog. A Japanese White Akita...wearing an artificial leg...created by his owner John Weaver. It's not that a dog with three legs is such a rarity; what is unique about Kuma is the prosthesis with built in shock absorbers! The story of this dog became interest for live international news around the world. John discovered that his dog was good with children and the artificial leg attracted challenged children. Filling them with eager curiosity and interest John began to visit children's hospitals. Realizing the potential values of reaching these special children with a challenged dog became their mission in life. For more than 10 years they would drop whatever they were doing to visit a hospital...a clinic...a child's home. Hospitals and parents loved the results that their children experienced with just a simple visit from John and his dog. John and Kuma entered in the Eugene Greenhill 4K race 3 years in a row. The 6 mile March of dimes; the Hayward field relay race; and I forgot to mention this dog could run. John went on to create more advanced designs for his dog to wear like a titanium and carbon fiber prosthesis. The stories of this amazing white Akita filled newspapers, magazines, and television spots...each time...seen...they remembered that dog? Kuma passed away...and John would like to save the photographs; Sony super hi 8 film...video...news and archives of his dog for children's digital storybooks....adventures for challenged children... John says there is a lot of material...perhaps enough to create a movie?
