Advocates for Autism
Organized by: Shruti Misra
In India, autism is not generally considered a neurological disorder; it is considered simply "madness" and children with autism are often kept locked away and hidden, a source of shame and denial to families. However, in Odisha, a state in Eastern India, where awareness for autism is almost nil, a therapy center specifically designed to support children and parents of children with autism. However, due to no government and little private funding, resources for this revolutionary center are running low. The center cannot support more than ten (10) kids at a time and lacks even basic facilities including air conditioning. The Manage Autism Now Trust and the Autism Therapy Center need our help. Even a few dollars can make a difference. Autism should not be swept under the rug under the rudimentary description of "madness." Together, as Advocates for Autism, we can all make a difference.
