Advocating for Poverty and Hunger Eradication in Malawi
Organized by: Hussein Chipala
Malawi is experiencing the untold hunger due to the serious drought that has been experienced for two consecutive years. The problem is worsening since a lot of people especially in the rural areas have no any financial muscle and other capacity to mitigate this challenge. The hunger situation is negatively contributing to other serious problems such as prostitution, rapid rise in the crime rate among the youth, sexual abuse as well as forced marriages which is also indirectly spreading HIV rapidly. The youths in our community decided to intervene by introducing irrigation agriculture so that the crops should be grown even during the harsh conditions. We believe that such intervention may help in ending hunger as well as helping in the improvement of the economic status for the poor grassroots communities. In as far as we are trying our best to mitigate these challenges, we are meeting some financial setbacks in order to have inputs such as maize, chemicals, water pumps and long pipes to irrigate the large area. We are also meeting the challenges in getting fertilizers. We are therefore appealing to the well-wishers to contribute to our cause by offering whatever they can. We thank you very much for your kindness.
