Afghan Orphan Relief
Organized by: Jonathan Bruce
My name is Hoosay Hamed and I founded an organization here at University of the Pacific entitled called (Afghan Orphan Relief.) A number of students have joined me in our fight to relieve the stresses and suffering of being an Orphan in the afflicted country of Afghanistan. I ask that you think of the children that starve each and every day. I ask that you support us in feeding the orphans of Afghanistan. Let us all share the joy of feeding a child that has to live every day without being guaranteed a meal. If you are unable to donate to our cause, please share it with others.
Afghan Orphan Relief has become a nonprofit organization that seeks to reach out to the orphaned children of Afghanistan. We are a newly established 501(c)(3) organization at the University of the Pacific and welcome supporters that are committed to bringing and being the change they wish to see in the world. Most importantly, we travel to Afghanistan ourselves and give the money directly to ensure the money is used directly for that orphanage, as often the sending of money is lost in bureaucracy and corruption.
The Afghanistan government allocates 85 Afghanis ($1.50) per day to feed each child in state orphanages, but that only 50 Afghanis reach their intended destination due to bureaucracy and corruption. A shortage of safe drinking water affects the already weak health status of many children. 60% of homes don’t have safe drinking water, and in total, only 12% of the population of Afghanistan has access to safe drinking water. As a result of the nearly three decades of war in Afghanistan, there are more than two million children who are orphans and over 600,000 who sleep on the streets. Over 400,000 children are maimed from land mines and over One Million children suffer from PTSD. 50% of the Afghan population is less than 18 years of age with almost no education.
Our mission is to introduce self sustainable projects that will ultimately demolish poverty to not only the orphans of Afghanistan but to the very people of our motherland. AOR has raised over $18,000 in collaboration with Islamic Relief for the orphans of Somalia in 2012 and continue to partner with other organizations on and off campus for a variety of different causes.
Over the past year AOR has actively reached out and connected to various orphanages in Afghanistan to study the statistics that would help AOR in future endeavors. AOR continues to complete short term and long term projects to help Afghan orphans. One such long term project includes the collection of school supplies from America and shipment of these supplies to Afghanistan to be distributed among orphanages to better support the children in excelling in their academics.
AOR would ultimately like to create a self-sustaining, enriching environment that helps orphans in Afghanistan excel in academic and social literacy. We would love for you to become part of our journey, part of a child's journey. Donate, share, and join us for a better future for these children.
