I saw this cat laying in the middle of the road and thought it was weird that when I slowly drove around her, she wouldn't move. I parked nearby and kept an eye on her. She started to move, so at first I thought it was just a weirdo cat but something was wrong she'd take a few slow steps and then sit down, then repeat. So I went closer and that's when I saw there was something really wrong.
I took her inside my place and my son and I took her to a vet, hoping she'd have a microchip and a family waiting for her. There was no microchip but they were nice enough to check her out for me. The vet said that she is stable, with no broken bones but that her eye is gone completely and it's a new injury...she said because there are no broken bones it's not likely she got hit by a car but probably was attacked by something. Which makes sense because we live near some woods with animals.
By the time we got through all of that and were discussing what options we had as far as no-kill shelters and where I could take an injured stray cat, my son had decided that this was the cat that he'd been wanting since he was three and that there was no way he was going to let me give her to someone else.
So now, as a single mother and full-time college student, I need to find a way to get Echo, as she's been dubbed, the medical attention she needs so that we can be her forever family.
I have been given the following quotes as far as the medical care she needs and will be speaking to some vets about possibly working with me on the costs. Any additional funds will go directly to Echo; as part of our family we'll need to make sure she's been fixed and get her a microchip.
Antibiotics, Pain Medication: $180
Blood Work & Exam: $200
Socket cleaning & stitches: $500
So with fees and everything, I'm looking at about $1,000. My 17 year old son wants to pay for these costs himself, but he doesn't start his summer job for a few weeks and Echo needs at least antibiotics as soon as possible. Any assistance that can be given in relation to Echo's medical costs would be so very appreciated.
I have been looking for a family, in case there is one missing for her & looking for her. But as of this posting I haven't had any success and Echo can't wait.
