Since my Stage IV breast cancer diagnosis last July, there were many thoughts that went thru my mind including the fact that life as I know it was now a thing of the past! How do I go about handling my "new normal" or how do I start my next journey/chapter.
I've been selected to join the tribe at A Fresh Chapter through Cross-Cultural Solutions and live out my passion of volunteering and helping others. But now I have the opportunity to take my passion to the next level and volunteer in New Dehli, India.
This trip will bring me together with individuals around the world who also have a passion for volunteering and have faced their version of adversity/loss/life challenges. We will take our fears and loss and turn them into a positive by helping others even less fortunate than ourselves.
I don't want to be remembered as someone who died of Stage IV cancer, but rather someone who lived out her dreams and helped people live a better life, whether it be in Slinger, Wisconsin or across the globe. I want to share my experiences with my boys and have them follow in my footsteps. I want them to be proud of what I accomplished as those life lessons will stick with them forever. I want them to see that there is LIFE after a terminal cancer diagnosis.
Audacious and hopeful, A Fresh Chapter's mission is to heal the emotional scars of cancer through volunteering and meaningful travel. In March, 2016 I will be joining other people impacted by cancer for a 2-week volunteer program in India. Whether spending time with disabled women at Mother Theresa's, working with kids at an underfunded daycare in one of Delhi's slums, or helping underserved youth through a career empowered program, I will build new connections, gain perspective, and step beyond my story of cancer to help create a ripple of good in the world. To be honest, I am a little scared but I'm also very excited about what this opportunity will bring.
Now, one of the things I have never been good at is asking others for help, which is something I could also work on while in India. But fundraising is part of this trip and considering I leave in 27 days, my fundraising needs to be wrapped up by Saturday, February 27th. The money I raise on this site will cover program costs, accommodations, meals, and volunteering and planning costs. Any denomination is appreciated and all funds raised go toward my mission volunteer trip. Lastly, any money raised above my goal will help to fund grants and scholarships so others can have the same opportunity.
Thank you in advance, I commit to paying your genorosity forward and I'm both honored and blessed to have the opportunity to join this tribe and have this incredible experience.
