My bride of 25 years, Maureen, was diagnosed with breast cancer in late 2003. After it recurred in late 2008, she passed in October 2014. She was and is the love of my life. I am a survivor of a different kind, with 3 teenage kids, a passion to honor my love, and a determination to change the world, one person at a time. At my wife’s celebration of life, I reflected that the genetics of love beat the genetics of cancer. Her love shines in the faces of each of our children, and I believe love has the power to change everything. I want to carry our love into the lives of those I have never met in India.
Audacious and hopeful, A Fresh Chapter’s mission is to heal the emotional scars of cancer through volunteering and meaningful travel. In March 2016, I will join other people impacted by cancer for a two-week volunteer program in India. Whether spending time with disabled women at Mother Teresa's, working with kids at an underfunded daycare in one of Delhi's slums, or helping underserved youth through a career empowerment program, I will build new connections, gain perspective, and step beyond my story of cancer to help create a ripple of good in the world.
My goal is $10,000, rather than $5,000, because as a caregiver, I'd love to raise enough for a scholarship for a cancer survivor to be able to travel. Maureen and I had talked about her making this trip. She can't now, so I'd love to know that someone with similar courage and tenacity, writing their own Fresh Chapter, could travel in her name.
A Fresh Chapter (Alliance Foundation) is a Project in affiliation with Social and Environmental Entrepreneurs (SEE) a non profit public charity exempt from federal income tax under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Donations will be used to cover program related costs and all US Donations of $100+ are eligible for a tax receipt. I look forward to bringing you with me on this journey of discovery and will volunteer in your honor while I'm in India! Thank you for your support!
