THE STORY:

South Africa is the country with the third highest biodiversity in the world. Despite these natural riches, there is very limited funding for conservation of the indigenous wildlife and its habitat, and much of it depends on private initiatives and volunteers.

My name is Danyel. I am currently studying Veterinary Medicine at Colorado State University. This summer I will be going to Africa to help a team of veterinarians protect their wildlife population.

My trip is not a vacation, but rather to offer free help. I will be assisting some of the world's best anesthesiologists while working on wildlife such as rhinos, elephants, and lions. Our time will be dedicated to helping injured animals from bullet wounds to poaching devices. I will also be assisting with relocation of some of the wildlife. Furthermore, I will be spending some time working on rabies control, which has been spreading rapidly from poaching dogs.

I have quite a bit of veterinary skills and it’s time I start using what I know to make a difference. In order to get me to Africa and back I will need to raise $6,000. Please help me reach this goal so that this summer I can make a difference.
