Healing and restoration

We are committed to helping families heal and be restored through integrated programs of domestic violence services, 24-hour child development, and parent empowerment opportunities.

Oasis of Love, Inc. (1986) and AGAPE 24-hour Child Development Center (1997) were founded to develop and implement culturally relevant services that focus on family restoration and stability. OASIS of Love Crisis Intervention Program has served over 13,580 women (annual average =485) surviving domestic violence since its inception. Program participants receive shelter placements, transportation, safety planning, court advocacy (orders for protection/harassment); support counseling, domestic violence partner interventions, supervised visitation parenting time, linkage with legal and medical assistance, and mental health and basic needs resources (food, clothing, personal hygiene).   Current integrated programs of include 24-hour (non-crisis) child care for infants through 12 years old, family support and resource linkage, support groups for child witnesses, batterer intervention work groups, school-based youth violence prevention, and community outreach. This unique blend of services, AGAPE/OASIS, fulfills our mission to increase the quality of life for families and children while breaking the cycle of violence.   We believe families can be empowered to transition from crisis to self-sufficiency, thrive, and live a violence-free lifestyle.  In a recent study (City of Minneapolis Police Department and The Office of the City Attorney, 2014) was completed on the rate and types of crime most reported over the past 25 years in Minneapolis.  Domestic violence ranked highest.  However, we are committed and can demonstrate significant outcomes on behalf of victim survivors.  Three times a year, women affected by domestic violence find well-being and turn-around through Marpe’ -- a 9-week support group that addresses safety, healthy relationship dynamics, lethality, safe parenting, and personal goals actualization (education, career, financial, health, etc.). OASIS also provides individual support counseling, client advocacy, and resource navigation beyond the crisis moment.  Our work invites victim survivors to enroll their children (2 years to 17 years old) in the OASIS Kidsplace, a specialized program that helps the children through their healing process in an age-specific non-threatening setting.  School advocacy is extended to these families especially when academic performance and attendance has been compromised by the violence at home. The OASIS Kidsplace (since 1990) operates an afterschool program concurrent with the Marpe’ women’s group schedule.   In providing client-based domestic violence services, it is important to help educate our community and to provide quality youth violence prevention programs.  OASIS Kids Ending Relationship Violence (since 1993) hosts school-based focus groups that promote leadership skills and awareness for students (grades 4-12th) to address topics like bullying, healthy relationships, and personal safety.  The AGAPE Peace Village is a 5-day series which connects the concepts of youth violence prevention and leadership for pre-K through 7th grade.  Anger intervention and abuse accountability services (since 1993) are provided to men --court-ordered, referred by employers, therapists, and self-referral. Participants must complete an intensive process focused on developing and maintaining nonviolent choices. The person who created this page is probably preparing something riveting to post about everything they're doing to give back. We recommend you sit at your computer and hit refresh over and over until their story goes live. You should also scroll down and see if they have a fundraiser going so you can support 'em.
