Agdec's Fundraiser:

Agdec Hurricane Matthew Relief

BENEFITING: Agdec

THE STORY:

For almost 30 years, a grassroots charity organization named AGDEC (French acronym for "Association of People from Clonard") has been serving the remote, provincial town of Clonard. Clonard is a small village situated in the now storm-ravaged city of Les Cayes, Haiti. There is no running water, no electricity and access to medical care is hours away by vehicle. AGDEC is made up of Haitians who didn't forget where they came from and their children, mostly 1st generation Americans, who've been inspired by their parents' impassioned work. We work closely with locals in the community to help in its sustainable development. Among the accomplishments of the organization are the school that was built by AGDEC which lost its roof due to brutal forces of Hurricane Matthew. The community shop we've funded also sustained some damage but is now functioning as a source of food supplies for the local population who live far away from access to the city. We've been primarily self-funded thus far, but have recently been making strides to receive more outside help. At the present, we'll be focusing our attention on getting food to the locals and that's what your donations will help with. Anything you can give would be much appreciated and we will do our best to be transparent so you can see the work your donations making happen. When I stay in Haiti, this is where I stay. For those who are wary of donating, please know that our organization is made up of Haitians who didn't forget where they came from and their children who've been inspired by their parents' impassioned work. We've been primarily self-funded thus far, but have recently been making strides to receive more outside help. Our website is very much a work-in-progress, currently being updated but the organization is a 501c3 which means your donations could be used as tax write-offs. Anything you can give would be much appreciated and we will do our best to be transparent so you can see the works your donations are making happen. We appreciate your support and encourage you to give, however you can, to an organization who is truly invested in seeing Haiti develop sustainably.
