BENEFITING: CENTER FOR MEDIA JUSTICE
It’s my 40th birthday on March 12th. For the occasion, I wish for you to make a donation to the Center for Media Justice. CMJ is an innovative organization that fights for equitable communications access and strengthens the cultural capacity of movements for racial and economic justice. I strongly believe in their mission, and have worked with them for over 5 years, including serving as Board Treasurer for 3 years. Give what you can. Every dollar counts.
On March 16, 2013, from 1pm to 5pm, I will present my next live salsa band event that will highlight this fundraiser and feature a presentation by a Center for Media Justice Associate. This all ages kid friendly event will occur at the Shadow Ultra Lounge (341 13th St, Oakland CA, between Webster St and Harrison St). Visit the Facebook event page to learn more details about the event – https://www.facebook.com/events/341882509257397/ . You may purchase tickets in advance- http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/343537 . I hope that you can make it. Until then, here’s a short blurb about the organization.
More About the Center for Media Justice
Under the leadership of the founding Executive Director, Malkia Cyril, with a dynamic team of staff, trusted advisors, board members and allied partners, CMJ has:
• Effectively established the only national organizing network for media rights and access, MAG-Net (http://centerformediajustice.org/programs-projects/mag-net/)
• Strengthened the communications leadership of thousands of local organizers,
• Coordinated successful field strategies to win significant media policy victories, (http://centerformediajustice.org/tag/campaign-for-prison-phone-justice/)and
• Introduced applied frameworks for cultural change that emphasize the centrality of grassroots organizers to strengthening racial justice movements
Give to CMJ! Your donation of any amount will help ensure our communities have the right to communicate not only freely, but also with the power to make change.
