BENEFITING: OAKLAND DANCE INC
It’s my 40th birthday on March 12. For this occasion, I wish for you to make a donation to the Oakland Dance, Inc., DBA Savage Jazz Dance Company. Founded in 1992, the Savage Jazz Dance Company (SJDC) is a modern dance company that is dedicated to educating others, presenting to the Bay Area, and evolving the concert dance that embraces the artistic gumbo of the American classical music that is jazz. I strongly believe in their mission, and have worked with them for over 4 years, first as their Company Manager and now as their first Executive Director. Give what you can. Every dollar counts. The money will go toward supporting the organization’s annual expenses like youth scholarships for our Summer Dance Intensive program, dance instructor fees, classroom rental costs, production costs, special projects, and general administration costs. Your donation will also help us to keep our event ticket prices low. One special project that we’re especially raising money for is a major website redesign. The Savage Jazz Dance Company website needs it, and your contribution will help us bring it to the 2010’s.
On March 16, 2013, from 1pm to 5pm, I will present my next live salsa band event, titled “Oye… Mira… Baila!”, that will highlight this fundraiser and feature a short dance presentation by the Savage Jazz Dance Company dancers. This all age’s kid friendly event will occur at the Shadow Ultra Lounge (341 13th St, Oakland CA). Visit the Facebook event page to learn more details about the event – https://www.facebook.com/events/341882509257397/ . You may purchase tickets in advance- http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/343537 . I hope that you can make it. Until then, here’s more information about the organization.
More About Savage Jazz Dance Company
Under the leadership of the founding Artistic Director, Mr. Reginald Ray-Savage, SJDC addresses the neglected taste in jazz music and movement by including his eclectic musical taste that, even though based in jazz, allows him to open the meaning of jazz music and jazz dance. Now entering its 21st Season, the Savage Jazz Dance Company is building on their educational initiatives, while continuing to produce productions that feature classics, like M’Boom and African Flowers, and new pieces never before presented or recently created. The Savage Jazz Dance Company was nominated this last December for an Isadora Duncan Dance Award for Outstanding Achievement in Performance- Company for their 2012 Black Choreographers Festival performance. The company has received rave reviews for their work in 2012. Mr. Savage was also selected as a “community Game Changer” for the Game Changers Project where a video glimpse of Mr. Savage’s unique method of teaching youth is given - http://www.ebony.com/video/entertainment-culture/game-changers-savage-dance-854 .
Give to SJDC! Your donation of any amount will help the Company present the art of modern/jazz dance to communities that otherwise cannot afford it and preserve this art form by educating the next generation.
