BENEFITING: WATER FOR SOUTH SUDAN
One day, while I was sick home from school, I was finishing a book with my mom called A Long Walk to Water by Linda Sue Park. This book is about a boy named Salva Dut. Salva is from South Sudan and when terrorists invaded in to his school, he had to run. So Salva and about 1000 other people were walking and walking trying to find clean water and shelter. He had to live in a refugee camp for the rest of his childhood. Salva didn't see his family again for many, many years.
Another side of the story is about a girl named Nya, who has to walk 8 hours every day to a dirty lake to get water for her family. This water makes people sick, and it leaves her no time to go to school.
When Salva becomes a grown man, he decides to raise money to build wells for people so they can have clean water. Nya's tribe raised money to build a school! And guess what? ...........This is all true! But sadly, millions of South Sudanese still have no access to clean water.
After my mom and I finished the book, we decided to build this charity in the hopes of building a well for a community in South Sudan. Salva has a non-profit organization. We will take our $5000.00 and give it to Salva so he can hire construction workers to build a well.
We will get pictures of the construction and post them on Instagram and the website. Follow us at @agwells4southsudan. You can also learn more at www.waterforsouthsudan.org. You can contact me with any questions at firstname.lastname@example.org.
