A hand stretched to the addict
Organized by: Randall Smith
I want to build from the ground-up a new way of handling addiction. It is a long term disease, affliction, and powerful foe. It takes more than what we have to fully help the addict and their family. If there was a facility that was built from the ground up with the whole family in my mind, a facility that most of the cost is spent on clients and the people who directly work with them, then so much could change, and the one thing that may reduce is that the stories of tragedies may reduce. Insurance companies have destroyed the industry, and people are lucky to get 30 days. 30 days compared to a life time of drug use is only a precursor to failure. What I want is diversity of treatment, life skills and trades to be taught, animal therapy, and the ability to try new modalities when ever possible. I am only a drug and alcohol in counselor in Texas and I have seen much of what works and what doesn't. I have also chosen the path that most of the people who can really reach others are stuck looking for low wages and do not have the opportunity to make bigger changes in the industry.
